<p>The farmers in Aba –Eruwa, Igangan, Ibarapa North Local government of Oyo state, Nigeria have been battling with<br>black pod disease of Cocoa .This black pod disease caused by Phytophthora palmivora accounts for low productivity in cocoa production, which also affects their livelihood. There had been several efforts by the farmers in curtailing this pest, agro- chemicals were used perhaps the pest population have developed resistant to the agrochemical treatments. Some complained on the cost of buying pesticides, which they considered expensive. However chemical have been found to have harmful effects such as contamination of ground water , chemical residues on food , health risk to those who apply it , and thus there is need for ecofriendly solutions to this menace. </p>
